08/01/14 2014 Bellinger River Agricultural Show

The Bellinger River Agricultural Show are writing to formally invite your members of all ages, to participate in the Cattle Section of the 2014 Bellinger River Agricultural Show. This show is one not to be missed as we have a very exciting and unique line up of events to participate in.

The official dates for the show are 24th &25th May, however the dates for your cattle diary are Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th May 2014. It is on these two days only that we will be holding the cattle events in both beef and dairy. The line up of these two exciting days are as follows:

Day 1 – (23rd May)

Beef Cattle Training & Assessment Workshop hosted by AACo Chief Operating Officer, Troy Setter.

This unique and informative workshop is invaluable to those who seek a more involved look into the cattle industry. It will teach such things as:

  • ·How the beef industry works, commercial, stud, grass, grain, dairy beef, veal, live export, back grounding, exporting, domestic, agents, transport
  • Showing, preparation at the show of the animal and yourself, why do we show?
  • Judging and selecting, market specific as well as show judging and their differences, but the importance of both
  • Economic selection, EBVS, Animal care and welfare and selling the industry and yourself

You are encouraged to bring along your own led steers/heifers to work on personally throughout the day, as this will be the prime opportunity to have yourself fully prepared and informed before judging commences later in the afternoon and on the following day.

At the conclusion of the workshop in the late afternoon, we will be holding an open led steer and heifer competition, which will be judged by Troy Setter himself. This will be followed by a free barbeque for all participants.

Day 2 – (24th May)

Day 2 will see our regular cattle judging program take place for both beef and dairy cattle. Again, we are very fortunate to have Troy Setter judging and offering his advice on the day. Winners will be rewarded with an assortment of ribbons, trophies and money.

Participation in the workshop and our cattle program this year is expected to be highly sought after, due to the presence of Troy Setter, being one of Australia’s leading and finest agricultural leaders. Opportunities such as these for young beef enthusiasts and for those whom simply want to follow an agricultural path rarely pop up, therefore places will be limited so it will be a case of first in best dressed.

Be sure to check the Bellinger River Agricultural Society’s webpage regularly for updates of when entry forms will be available to download. You can find us at: www.bellingenshow.com.au

Don’t delay….Now is the time to feed your steers and heifers to ensure they are well covered for the show. We are very much looking forward to the show this year and can’t wait to meet you all soon. If you have any further enquiries, please contact us.
