A reminder and details about the Field Day being hosted by Baden Geeves and Raymond Cross on Sunday 8th September at Freedom Rise Miniature Belted Galloway Stud, 12340 D’Aguilar Hwy, Yarraman, South East Queensland.

Cost will be $10.00 per head for Australian Belted Galloway Association Members & Australian Galloway Association members, with non members costing $15.00. A $5.00 cost for children.

The day is shaping up to be great day for all participants. So far there are confirmed attendees from as far afield as Northern NSW and Roma in Central Qld. The day is going to be a fantastic networking opportunity for all attendees.  A local produce supplier will have a stall setup so that you will be able to ask questions about many of cattle products and treatments available, and how to use them.  They will have information available about Buffalo fly, tick and other parasite treatments. If you would like other information on anything specific, please let Baden and Raymond know.

Programme for the Field Day

8:30-9:30 am: Tour of property, mix and mingle and “on-the-go” Q&A.

9:30am: Morning Tea

10am: Ear tattooing and applying NLIS and other tags. There are several animals to be tattooed, and the lighter coloured ears of red animals will make it easier for you to see the results of the tattooing.

11am: Tick fever and 7-in-1 injections. You’ll be shown how to give neck injections using a shorter needle to allow for under-skin (sub-cutaneous) application.

11:30 am. Castration using a band. There are three animals to do, so those who want to give it a go will be able to.

12pm-1pm: Lunch and Lucky door raffle. Galloway Family association members will also go into an extra draw for a complete cattle breaking setup (to be demonstrated after lunch).   How to make your own cattle leads. Everyone will have a chance to make a “3-loop” cattle lead after they’ve finished their lunch (see picture below)

1pm- Cattle breaking. We believe this is one of the most important ways to increase the value of your animals if you are aiming to sell to the hobby market/small acreage owners, or just want a much less stressful time when dealing with your animals in your yards. There will be have six animals to work with, all in different stages of breaking. You will be shown how to do the initial and crucial first tie-up and lead. Everyone who wants to will be able to participate.

Afternoon Tea

For those who are able to stay longer, there will be  further training classes on Monday morning (after a nice breakfast for those who want one).

Don’t forget, if you have any animals to sell, please let us Baden and Raymond know and they will create a page for attendees to look at.
